BUILDING CONSERVATION AND PLANNING

David’s background is mainly from the sensitive repair and alteration of Listed Buildings in the Lewes area, but he now has extensive experience working around the Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill, Cranbrook and Rye areas since starting Witcombe Surveying and Conservation Ltd in 2015.

He has a wealth of experience working on projects involving the conservation of historic structures, barn conversions, two-storey flint extensions, and managing water penetration to historic buildings. With a conservation-minded approach, David uses his extensive knowledge when preparing reports for house purchasers to guide them towards sensitive repair options and help them protect the historic integrity of their property.

This work led him to undertake an MSc in Building Conservation at the Weald and Downland Museum.

Most recent projects have included:

  • Converting a house into four flats.
  • Converting two flats back into a house.
  • Converting cow sheds into holiday accommodation.

Where we specialise in Building Surveys for house purchasers, we do not currently prepare architectural drawings, submit applications or specify and manage large conservation projects at this time. However, we can provide initial advice and refer you to other professionals we work with closely. We may also act as a client’s representative to guide them on the right path to care for their building.
